Engagement sessions are a terrific way for couples to mark this incredible milestone in their relationship and take the day off from daily activities to enjoy each other’s company. As photographers, we love it when couples choose photoshoot locations with which they have a special connection, which is what Erick and Despina did. Long Island City holds a special place in our couple’s hearts. And that, plus their undeniable connection, made the session more meaningful and the engagement photographs so much more romantic!

Erick + Despina’s Long Island City Engagement Session 

Erick and Despina met at 5 Burro Cafe in Forest Hills, New York, where Despina worked as a waitress. Completely smitten by her, Erick would often visit the cafe. So we guess it would be right to say that his visits totally paid off. We can also vouch for their deep bond because Erick and Despina were wholly focused on each other throughout their engagement session. This is just one of the many things we love about our jobs - photographing authentic moments and connections and turning them into forever memories for couples. 

Erick and Despina chose to have their engagement session in Long Island City by the iconic Pepsi Cola sign. A multicultural couple, Erick, who is from El Salvador, and Despina, who is Greek, both grew up in Queens and wanted their engagement session photos to reflect that connection they both share. So when we got there, we could feel how much having this session in Long Island City meant to them, and we were so happy that we could do something like this for our couple.

Erick and Despina were 100% committed to their engagement session. Despite it being a beautifully overcast and rainy day, these two still went ahead with the planned photoshoot by adding an accessory: An incredibly photogenic umbrella! We walked around the pier for the couple’s portraits, looking for the perfect backdrops to go with their picture-perfect poses. Even though it was a cloudy day with moody skies, we were lucky to get the New York City skyline as the backdrop in their engagement photos. They were so comfortable and romantic in front of the camera, and we aimed to show that effortless chemistry in their photos. They laughed, kissed, and just focused on having a good time together. Erick and Despina chose to end their engagement session at Café Henri, and we were able to get some lovely photographs of them while they spent some time together, celebrating this special day over drinks.
